Aleia Milano to Join the Owls

Presque Isle, ME – Aleia Milano from Lake County, California will be attending The University of Maine at Presque Isle in the fall and will be joining the UMPI Women's Basketball Team, according to a statement by Head Coach Gavin Kane.

Milano, a 5'9" combo-guard attended Lower Lake High School and Butte College, which is a member of the California Community College Athletic Association. She played her freshman season for the Lady Roadrunners before taking this past season off to rehab an injury.  Aleia averaged 23 points per game during her senior year in High School and was the League MVP. She averaged 9 points per game her freshman season as a starter on Butte's Championship Team, while maintaining a 4.0 Grade Point Average in the classroom.

"I was attracted to UMPI by the history of success throughout the coaching staff, along with the new experience of living on the East Coast," stated Milano. "As a player, I am a hard worker and naturally lead by example. I am a scorer who likes to play fast and distribute to my teammates while pushing the pace of the game. I hope to bring leadership, intensity, and experience to UMPI. I thrive in a fast paced, high intensity style of play and I like to push the ball and run the court."

"We are incredibly pleased to have Aleia become part of our UMPI Family and Community," said Coach Kane.  "She is a very good athlete who can really run the floor, score the basketball and is willing to defend with intensity. I love her energy and she will give us some length at the guard position. As much as I like her offensive game, I really like the way that she is ready to defend immediately after she scores or dishes off for a basket. We very much look forward to what Aleia will bring to our Team."

Milano, who is a Business Administration major has career goals of becoming an Athletic Director and coach at the collegiate level. Her hobbies include working out, running, coaching youth teams and hiking.
