Presque Isle, ME - Mount Desert Island senior Olivia Gray has committed to the University of Maine at Presque Isle and will play basketball for the Owls in the fall of 2022 according to a release by Coach Gavin Kane.
Gray will be enrolled as a Physical Education Major and will work towards a Coaching Minor as well, while at UMPI. "I really like the size of the Campus and that the class sizes are not too large. I'm looking forward to pursuing my passion for basketball at UMPI, while being able to learn in a small community that will make me feel at home," she said. One of Olivia's favorite sports quotes comes from Michael Jordan: "Practice like you've never won. Play like you've never lost."
MDI Coach Brent Barker had this to say about the 5'8" guard: "I'm really happy to hear Olivia has decided to attend UMPI and play for Coach Kane. I'm glad she is in good hands." Coach Barker continued, "Olivia is a team first player, whatever the team needs she will do to the best of her ability. She is a smart and savvy basketball player with a really good basketball IQ. She works very hard in the off season in the weight room and with our trainer to improve herself as an athlete. Her strengths as a player are as a competitor, playmaker and her 3 point shooting. On defense she always battles and always is in the right position and right spot. What she lacks in height and foot speed she makes up with effort, grit, and toughness. UMPI will be getting a really nice basketball player who will do good things for their program."
"MDI has an outstanding basketball program and Olivia has played for an excellent Coach in Brent Barker," said Coach Kane. "I know that she is fundamentally sound, has a great understanding of the game, and I believe she will make a smooth transition to college basketball. I foresee her having a very good college basketball career. We look forward to welcoming Olivia to UMPI at the start of the fall semester."
Welcome Olivia Gray to the Owls Family!
