Jelecia Ma’gee-Hodges to Play at UMPI

Presque Isle, ME – UMPI Head Women's Basketball Coach Gavin Kane is pleased to announce that Jelecia Ma'gee-Hodges from Killean, Texas will be attending The University of Maine at Presque Isle in September and will be playing basketball for the Owls.

The 5'8" forward played at Lampasas High School and then for one season at Concordia University in Austin, Texas. While in High School Jelecia was a three-time MVP Honoree...named Offensive Player of the Year...two-time First Team All-District...two-time All-Tournament Team...a part of the National Honor Society....and earned honor roll all four years.

"We are thrilled to have Jelecia join our basketball program. I cannot wait to see how much she will bring to our Team," said Coach Kane. "Jelecia is a bit undersized when playing in the post but she more than makes up for it with her strength, skill and aggressiveness. She is a versatile forward who can score inside, she can get to the rim from the perimeter, and she rebounds the ball tremendously."

Ma'gee-Hodges who will major in Psychology while at UMPI had her former High School Coach Mark Myers say this about her. "Jelecia is tough player who can score inside and out.  She can play virtually any position and should be a great asset to your program. She comes from a strong Christian family. Our current high school girls still look up to her as a role model. I am looking forward to keeping up with the UMPI program."

"When I began to search for a University and Basketball Family, I looked for a place where I felt like I would be at home. After much research and prayer, I knew UMPI was that place. UMPI has blessed me with the opportunity to not only continue my Psychology degree, but also to represent our school on the basketball court. I have always strived to be my best both academically and in basketball. I believe that you can never accomplish a dream or desire alone. I look forward to bringing an added addition of loyalty, dedication, unity, leadership, hard work, and trust. I believe together, we can do anything." said Jelecia.

One of my favorite quotes is, "I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game winning shot." (Kobe Bryant)

"I want my teammates to know that I have their back and I will be one that can lead and follow. Our goal and desire is to be a Championship Team, I will do all I can to help us reach that goal together. To my Coaches, I will be, and remain dedicated both on and off the court. I will work hard, remain focused, lead by example and be fully committed to you as well as my teammates," stated Ma'gee-Hodges.

"Just from my conversations as well as many texts and emails, it's quite evident that Jelecia has a very upbeat and positive attitude. I look forward to seeing Jelecia sharing that part of her character with her teammates, coaches and our Campus Community." said Kane.

The Women's Basketball Team, Coaches, and University Community would like to welcome Jelecia Ma'gee-Hodges to UMPI.
