Another Weekend Sweep for UMPI Softball

Johnson, VT – The UMPI Softball team finished the weekend with two more victories vs North Atlantic Conference opponent Northern Vermont University – Johnson. Capping off the weekend with an 11-2 victory followed by a 13-1 win, totaling their weekend with a 46 runs to Johnsons 6.

Game 1

11-2, UMPI

Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) pitched game one for UMPI, striking out seven Badgers and only allowing five hits and two earned runs in the five-inning game. Nicole Mooney pitched yet again for the Badgers, as the Owls finished the game with 15 hits and 11 earned runs.

Starting the game off with an offensive surge, the Owls scored five runs in the first inning. Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) led off for the Owls with a double, then stealing third. Delanie Strout (Greene, ME) then doubled to bring Hansen home. With two outs, Madison Exferd (La Grande, OR) hit a two RBI single. Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL) then scored on an error, followed by a bases loaded walk with Hansen at bat, bringing in the fifth run of the inning.

A quick three and out on the defensive end, followed with a one-run second inning for UMPI. Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) singled to bring in Strout. Strout was soon back up to bat, with another hit, an RBI single. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Dalaney Anfinson (Green Cove Springs, FL) and Terry led to two more runs bringing the lead to nine.

Hansen then singled in the top of the fourth inning, this brought in a run. While Strout continued her perfect game at the plate with another double, scoring Hansen. The Badgers were able to stop the shut out in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double. Then adding another run with a single in the bottom of the fifth cutting the lead to nine, but still not enough as the Owls finished the game in five innings.

Strout would finish the game with a perfect 4-4 from the plate with two doubles, adding three RBI's and scoring three runs herself. Hansen, Terry and Exferd each finished the game with two RBI's each.

Game 2

13-1, UMPI

Olivia Riitano (Abbot, ME) pitched game two for the Owls earning the win, finishing the game with three strikeouts, and only allowing four hits and one run. Nicole Mooney pitched for the Badgers allowing 13 earned runs and 16 hits.

Game two started in similar fashion with back-to-back doubles. Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) then followed by Delanie Strout (Greene, ME) to get an RBI, bringing Hansen home. Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL) hit another double, this time bringing in two runs, before closing out the top of the first. The Badgers answered with a run themselves in the first.

Back to the top of the order, Hansen tripled in the second inning, flowed by Strout with another RBI double. Dalaney Anfinson (Green Cove Springs, FL) then followed with a SAC fly to bring Strout home. Another set of double this time by Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA), followed by Roni Shaw (Payette, ID) earning the RBI. Before the inning ended, Diaz singled to bring Shaw home and the Owls a 7-1 lead.

With her third double in a row, Strout hit Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) home in the top of the third inning. Anfinson then followed with a single, which scored Strout and Hansen, bringing the lead to nine runs, going into the fourth. Hansen then hit an RBI single in the fourth to give them their only run in the inning. Halle Garner (Murray, UT) hit an RBI single in the fifth inning, followed by a single from Reagle to score Garner, gave the Owls their 13th, and last run of the game.

Strout finished the game with another perfect performance at the plate, with three doubles and three RBI's. Finishing her weekend with a very impressive .938 batting average in four games. Hansen finished the game with three hits and one RBI, which Anfinson and Diaz both finished with three RBI's each.


The Owls will host their next doubleheader weekend for the first time in five years. UMPI will host Northern Vermont University at Lyndon in a four-game weekend match up.
