Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's soccer team has added two talented players from Central Maine to their 2022 recruiting class. Caelan Billings, a midfielder and back from Sullivan, Maine and Jacob Brezovsky, a striker from Bucksport, Maine will join the Owls in the fall of 2022.
Billings was a 4 year varsity starter for Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan, Maine where he was selected to the Northern Maine State All-Star Team, the PVC All Conference First Team and a Northern Maine Class C All-Star. While playing for the Tigers, Billings solidified the team's defense but was also a main target on offensive crosses and set pieces. Caelan also played club soccer for the Acadia Fire for 7 years and DSA United for 1 year.
Caelan plans to study Business Administration with a concentration in Outdoor Recreation at UMPI. When asked about coming to UMPI this fall to play for the Owls Caelan stated "I look forward to meeting the other players and building a strong bond for the coming season. I am excited for the possibility of another 4 years on the soccer pitch."
Assistant Principal, Athletic Director and former soccer coach Rick Dube spoke highly of Caelan's ability to step in and have an immediate impact for the Owls roster in 2022. "Caelan has been a 4 year varsity starter for Sumner Memorial High School and his speed, skill, and tenacity on the field will make him a valuable player for the Owls. His ability to stymie the opposing team's offensive attack and quickly regain possession was crucial to our counterattacking style of play. Caelan also has a nose for the net and is a major offensive threat on crosses and set pieces. The University of Maine at Presque Isle is welcoming a true leader, gentleman, scholar and distinguished athlete."
Brezovsky was a 4 year varsity starter for Bucksport High School in Bucksport, Maine and a member of the Seacoast United Club Soccer team for 4 years. Jacob scored 30 goals and recorded 10 assists during his senior season for the Golden Bucks placing him 2nd in school history for points in a single season. During his senior year Jacob was selected to both the Class C North All-Star team as well as the PVC All-Conference Second Team.
Jacob plans to major in Secondary Education at UMPI and when asked about coming to UMPI to play soccer next fall Jacob stated "I am excited that I can continue to play soccer at the collegiate level and I am very thankful that UMPI has given me this opportunity."
High school coach John Boynton states "Jacob had an excellent career at Bucksport High School. He had the second highest scoring season ever recorded for the High School helping to lead the team to the best record in school history. His leadership and dedication helped to make his senior season a memorable one for all of us." I am confident that Jacob will make a great addition to the UMPI Men's soccer program."
UMPI Head Soccer Coach Alan Gordon is extremely excited to have both Caelan and Jacob join the Owls team in 2022. "Both of these young men have the skill and athletic ability to step in and immediately make an impact on the success of the team. The experience and knowledge they have gained while playing for both their high school and club teams has definitely prepared them to meet the challenges of playing in the competitive North Atlantic Conference. I am looking forward to seeing them take the field with their new teammates in the fall."
The UMPI men's soccer team along with the Owls Family would like to welcome Caelan Billings and Jacob Brezovsky to UMPI.
