Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's soccer team has added one of the top strikers in Georgia to their 2020 recriting class. Cristian Fonseca, a striker from Rome, Georgia will join the Owls this fall after completing his high school and club soccer careers in Rome.
Fonseca was a three year varsity starter for the very competitive Rome High School Wolves and a ten year member of the Rome Aresnal Soccer Club where he excelled as one of the top strikers in the State. During his 4 years on the varsity team Fonseca was twice selected 1st Team All-Region and during his senior season was named to the 2020 Southeast All-American team that included the top players from Georgia, Texas, Florida and South Carolina. During Fonseca's senior season he was the Co-Leader in goals scored for the entire State of Georgia with 18.
Fonseca plans to study Business at UMPI this fall and when asked about coming to Presque Isle to play for the Owls Cristian stated "I am excited to join the team and hungry to compete with my teammates for a conference championship."
Lucas Levesque, the director of the Rome Aresnal Soccer Club, was extremely pleased to hear that Cristian is joining the Owls team in 2020 and states "We are very happy for Cristian as he starts his new journey academically and athletically at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He is a great young man and a tremendous player who is going to do great things for Coach Gordon and UMPI soccer. He is definitely a game changer who will be a threat every time he touches the ball. I commend Cristian for taking advantage of this great opportunity and hope other players follow in his footsteps and further their education and soccer careers at a quality university like the University of Maine at Presque Isle."
U-Maine Presque Isle Head Coach Alan Gordon is extremely excited to have Cristian join the Owls team in 2020 and is looking forward to seeing him in action with the rest of his teammates this fall. "Cristian's outstanding athletic ability and skill on the field as well as the experience he gained while playing for both his high school and club teams will make him an outstanding additon to this years team."
