Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls baseball team adds there newest recruit, Mason Long to join the Owls this coming 2023 season. Long plans to join the Owls this fall '22, planning to study accounting.
Long, a utility player, played second, shortstop, left field and pitched for Bangor High School. Residing out of Orrington, Maine, Long talks about his decision to attend UMPI. "I knew when I toured the campus and spoke with Coach Stinson that UMPI is the right college for me. I'm looking forward to meeting my new teammates and working hard for the team. Playing baseball at this next level has always been my goal and I am very thankful for this opportunity."
Dave Morris, the Bangor High School coach spoke about Mason Long, "He is a terrific player for us and a great teammate. He is a player who puts his team first and works hard as well as pushes those around him too." Morris continued, "He is very coachable and I feel has much potential. He is first to pick up gear and never shy away from competing. I believe from what he has shown me here at Bangor that he will be a terrific addition to your program and what you have and are building at UMPI."
Long also played travel baseball for Coach Pete Speed, throughout his high school years. "Mason is one of the most versatile players I have had the chance to coach." Said Coach Speed, "Over the years he played pretty much every position. He's a smart player and works hard. Always seems to find a way to get on base. Overall, a very productive player offensively and solid defensively. Mason is very coachable and has a team first attitude. He would be an asset to any team."
Coach Stinson, adds to his excitement in Long's commitment to UMPI, "I am truly excited to have Mason joining our program this fall and have a feeling he will have a great 4yrs here at UMPI, I look forward to see Mason push the returners to make them better but to also compete for a starting job, His understanding of being a team player and playing whatever role is asked of him will be a great assets to our team. Welcome to our family Mason!"
