Owls Celebrate Senior Day in Doubleheader vs UMF

Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls baseball team hosted their last games of the year this afternoon, while celebrating their six seniors, in their last career home games. The Owls hosted North Atlantic Conference opponent the University of Maine at Farmington in a doubleheader. Losing both games, 14-3 and 9-1.

Game 1

14-3, UMF

Senior captain William Stinson (Norridgewock, ME) started the game on the mound for UMPI. Pitching the first four innings, and finishing with four strikeouts, while letting up nine earned runs and ten hits. Ian McCray (Argyle, TX) pitched the remaining three innings for the Owls. Ky Morris earned the win on the mound for the Beavers, pitching the first six innings and letting up only one earned run.

A two-run homer by the Beavers in the first, gave them an early 2-0 lead, before the Owls immediately answered with an RBI single by Nicholas Perfitt (Houlton, ME) and an unearned stolen base by Joey Lippo (Coupleville, WA), tying the game a two. It was all Beavers for the remainder of the game, scoring three runs in the second, two in the fourth, five in the fifth, and two more in the seventh inning. UMPI then scored one more run in the seventh, off a RBI single by Patrick Outler (Flower Mound, TX).

Perfitt hit well for the Owls, going 2-3 at the plate with an RBI. Beavers Riley Bartell finished the game with four hits and five RBI's in a natural cycle.

Game 2

9-1, UMF

Patrick Outler (Flower Mound, TX) pitched the complete game for UMPI, throwing 110 pitches, with eight strikeouts and letting up nine earned runs. Riley Bartell pitched for the Beavers, letting up only one earned run and finishing with eight strikeouts.

The Beavers started off early in game two, hitting an RBI double and a two-RBI homer to give them an early 3-0 lead. After a couple of shut-out innings from both teams the Beavers added two more runs in the fourth off a triple and a single. Bartell hit a three-run homer in the seventh for UMF to give them their eighth run of the game. The Owls got their first run in the seventh by a single Joey Lippo (Coupleville, WA). Lippo finished the game 2-4 with an RBI.


The Owls will travel down to UMF for their last doubleheader of the year tomorrow (May 10), 2 & 4:30PM starts.
