Owls Struggle in Weekend Conference Matches

NEW LONDON, NH – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Volleyball team (5-26, 2-5) wrapped up their regular season play this weekend and dropped a pair of conference matches to Colby-Sawyer (10-19, 6-1) and Maine Maritime (18-7, 7-0).  The Owls were swept 3-0 in both matches.

Colby-Sawyer def. UMPI 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-11)

The Chargers trailed just once in the entire match (1-0 in the second set).  The Owls showed some resiliency in the second set, coming back from trailing by ten to make it interesting, but Colby-Sawyer would close it out and dominate the third set to sweep the Owls.

Abby Jewett (SR, Bass Harbor, ME) would end with a double-double, collecting 11 kills and ten digs.  Esmeralda Galvan (FR, Bullhead City, AZ) would also add ten digs, while Laura Aroz (FR, Tucson, AZ) would have ten assists in the match.

Maine Maritime def. UMPI 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-21)

The Owls would struggle with their attack in the first two sets, posting negative attack percentages and allowing the Mariners to run away with the first two sets.  The third set became a back and forth affair, and the Owls took a 16-15 lead, their first of the match.  MMA would go on a five point run at that point and UMPI was not able to recover from that, falling 3-0 in the regular season finale.

Jewett would lead the Owls with five kills.  Hannah Williams (SO, Park Falls, NS) would collect eight digs.

The Owls finish their regular season with a 5-26 overall record.  They collected a 2-5 record in their first season the North Atlantic Conference.
