PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Soccer team (1-1) were shutout on Sunday afternoon. The Fisher Falcons (3-1) would pour in goals late to walk away with a 7-0 victory.
It was a tightly contested game for much of the first half. The Owls missed some key opportunities to score. The Falcons would finally break through in the 37th minute when Grace Roach (FR, Hutchinson, MN) would find the back with a shot from left of goal. Julia Schojan (SR, Rochester, NY), who led the NAIA last season in goals, got hot from that point, adding two quick goals to put the Owls down three at half.
Schojan and the Falcons were not done yet. Schojan would end up with five goals in the afternoon while Delaney McNulty (JR, Los Angeles, CA) would net a goal, and the Falcons would cruise to the seven point win.
"Soccer has a way of humbling decent teams in a hurry," said Head Coach Trevor Parent. "We had a very good run of play in the first half hour- could have been 2-1, 2-0, then we let in three quick ones to end the half. Our mental resolve wasn't up to par today. We have the quality to not only be better defensively, but also, our quality in the attack is undeniable. We go again next weekend."
The Owls continue their home stretch next weekend when they host U Maine Farmington (2-3) on Saturday afternoon. That game will kick off at 1 pm.
