BANGOR, ME – The Owls Women's Soccer (0-2) team returned to action in the Husson Classic on Sunday. The Husson Eagles (1-1) notched their first win of the season with a strong offensive performance, downing the UMPI squad by a score of 5-1.
Husson scored all five goals in the first half, with four different players connecting to extend a big lead. Junior Leah Hibbard (Portsmouth, RI) would score the first Eagle goal (10:29) and the last (38:44), as well as assisting on the second goal, setting up Hannah Clough (SR, Mount Vernon, ME) at the 12:04 mark. Maddie Page (JR, Hermon, ME) and Arianna McKinnon (FR, Howland, ME) would also find the net, and the Eagles took a comfortable 5-0 lead into the half.
Shortly into the second half, the Owl's Morgan Roy (JR, Howland, ME) would knock in an unassisted goal to get UMPI on the board. It would not be enough to jump start the offensive unit, as Husson would control the ball for much of the second half, outshooting the Owls 25-9 in the game.
"The girls played well, real well in the second half," said Head Coach Trevor Parent of his team. "We were committed as a team and disciplined. It is not the end result we wanted, but sticking with the process, improving each game. This week we played two quality halves, now it's about putting that type of performance in two consecutive halves."
The Owls return to action on Saturday, September 10th, it will be their home opener. UMPI will play host to Maine Maritime at 12:30 PM.
