Owls Tie Game Late, Fall by Seven

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (3-18) would fight out of an early hole to tie the game late, but would eventually fall to the College of St. Joseph's Fighting Saints (10-12) by a final score of 66-59.

The Fighting Saints would start off the game on a 12-0 run and put the Owls in an early hole.  Eight UMPI turnovers in the first quarter and some solid shooting from the visitors would put CSJ up by a score of 21-9 at the end of the first quarter.  The Owls would take better care of the ball in the second quarter, but would still trail by 13 at halftime.

A quick 6-0 run to start the second half would put St. Joseph's up by 19, their largest lead of the game.  During the next nine minutes, the Owls would outscore their opponents 25-6 to put themselves back into the mix.  With six minutes remaining Emilia Churchill (SO, Washburn, ME) would hit a jumper that would tie the game at 50.  The Fighting Saints would respond with a 10-2 run to reclaim control of the matchup.  With time winding down, the Owls would pull within six on two separate occasions, but CSJ would slam the door on any comeback attempt, taking the seven-point victory.

Rhylee Wright (SO, Frenchville, ME) would score 14 points and grab nine rebounds for the Owls.  Jessy Dickison (SR, Houlton, ME) ended with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while Kendra Silvers (FR, North Berwick, ME) would add ten points off the bench.

The Owls will wrap up the 2017-18 season on Thursday when they travel north to face the University of Fort Kent Bengals.  That game is scheduled for a 5 pm tip.
