BOSTON, MA – The UMPI Women's Basketball team (5-15) could not overtake the Fisher Falcons (10-13) on Saturday, falling by a score of 84-51.
The Owls started the game off strong and built an 11-4 lead midway through the first quarter. Fisher would find their rhythm and end the quarter with a three minute 18-1 run. The Falcons would never look back from that point, as an 11-0 run that lasted for over six minutes in the second period would help Fisher build a comfortable lead at half, with the scoreboard showing a 36-20 score.
The Falcons would run away with the game in the third, giving themselves a 37-point cushion, allowing them to cruise to the 84-51 victory. The Falcons shot the ball well, converting on 47.5% of their shots from the floor and hitting 12 of 25 from the three-point arc. They would also get to the free throw line 25 times and convert 16 of those attempts.
Sydney Churchill (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would lead the Owls with 12 points. Amanda Hotham (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would score eight points and grab eight rebounds. The Falcons would have four of their six players in double digits at the end of the contest.
The Owls will be at home on Thursday, February 9th to host Maine-Machias (7-12_. UMPI Athletics will be hosting the Coaches vs. Cancer and Pediatric Cancer Awareness events in connection with the games on that evening. All proceeds on that night will be donated to local cancer charities. The Women are scheduled to tip at 5 PM.
