FORT KENT, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Basketball team (4-13) travelled north to take on Aroostook County rivals the University of Maine at Fort Kent (15-9) on Saturday. The Owls would fall to the Bengals by a score of 71-61.
UMPI would grab the lead early and stretch it to six half way through the first quarter. A 10-0 run by the Bengals would give them their first lead with 19 seconds in the first, and carry over to the second quarter. UMFK would stay hot and stretch their lead to ten in the first half, and hold the lead at half, as the two teams would go to the locker room with a 31-23 score.
The Owls would continue to fight in the second half, and at the 5-minute mark in the third quarter, they would trail by just three. UMFK would use small scoring runs to maintain the lead, and at the end of the third, they held a ten-point advantage. UMPI would trail by as many as 14 in the fourth, but the Owls would go on an 11-1 run and close the gap again. The Bengals would not let their guests get closer than six points in the closing minutes and would escape contest with a ten-point win.
UMPI would be led by Amanda Hotham (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) who would net 24 points and grab 14 rebounds. Sydney Churchill (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would contribute 17 points, three steals, and three assists in the effort. The Bengals would be led by Madison Fenner (FR, Deltona, FL), who would make seven of her 12 three-point attempts, and end the afternoon with 23 points, six assists, and three rebounds.
The Owls travel to Eastern Nazarene College (12-6) on Thursday. That game will tip at 6 PM.
