Roos Use Late Run to Down Owls

RANDOLPH, VT – The UMPI Women's Basketball team (3-10) fell to SUNY Canton (3-12) on day two of the Vermont Tech Classic by a score of 67-53.

The teams looked evenly matched throughout the first half, with the Roos taking a three-point lead at the end of the first quarter.  UMPI would match SUNY Canton step for step, hitting 40% of their shots from the field in the first half.  The Owls would end the half strong and take a 30-26 lead into the locker room at half.  The game would continue in the same fashion to start the second half as the contest would feature five ties and seven lead changes.  The game would be tied at 38 with just over four minutes in the third quarter, but the Owls would go cold at that point.  A 15-0 run by SUNY Canton would be the difference in the game.  UMPI would regroup and outscore the Roos in the fourth quarter, but the deficit proved to be too much, as the Owls would fall by 14 points.

Rhylee Wright (FR, Frenchville, ME) would end the game with her second double-double in as many games.  She would finish with 22 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and five blocks.  Jessy Dickison (JR, Houlton, ME) would grab seven rebounds in the game, while Sydney Churchill (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would score nine points.  SUNY Canton's Allison Fink (JR, Saranac, NY) would lead all scorers with 26 points while collecting 12 rebounds.  Taylor Saltus (JR, Clintonville, NY) would also record a double-double, scoring ten points, grabbing 17 rebounds, and dealing out 8 assists.  Randi Conway (JR, Mount Upton, NY) would just miss being the third Roo player with a double-double, as she would score 18 points and collect nine rebounds.

The Owls return home for a Saturday afternoon matchup with SUNY Delhi (5-9).  That game will tip at noon.
