SCRANTON, PA – The UMPI Women's Basketball team (1-7) met Washington and Lee (3-5) in the consolation game of the University of Scranton Hilton Poinsettia Tournament. The Owls would fall by a score of 71-41.
The Generals were able to take control early by forcing 19 first half turnovers. UMPI would struggle offensively, shooting just 20% from the field in the first half, allowing Washington and Lee to open up a 24-point lead at the half. The Owls would recover and limit their turnovers in the second half. They managed to convert on 38.2% of their shots in the latter half, but were never able to close the gap. The Generals would walk away with a 30-point victory.
Amanda Hotham (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would lead the Owls offensively with 13 points. She would also grab eleven rebounds in the game. Hotham's efforts over the weekend would earn her All-Tournament honors. Rhylee Wright (FR, Frenchville, ME) would score nine points while collecting seven rebounds. Sydney Churchill (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would add nine points as well.
The Owls conclude their road trip on Monday night. They will play at Yeshiva University on Monday night. The opening tip is scheduled for 7 PM.
