SCRANTON, PA – The UMPI Women's Basketball team (1-5) met a strong Stocckton University team (9-1) in the opening round of the Hilton Poinsettia Tournament hosted by the University of Scranton. The Ospreys would dominate the Owls, winning by a score of 100-48.
The Owls were plagued by a poor shooting night throughout, hitting just 28.6% of their shots from the field. Stockton would capitalize, building a twenty-point lead in the first half, and continued to build an insurmountable lead early in the game. The Ospreys would shoot 54.2% from the field and create 21 UMPI turnovers on their way to the 52-point victory. The Owls would also lose in the rebounding battle, grabbing 35 during the course of the game, while their opponents accounted for 51 rebounds, 19 of them offensive.
Amanda Hotham (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would lead the Owls with 18 points and four rebounds. Sydney Churchill (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would add ten points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Rhylee Wright (FR, Frenchville, ME) would score eight points and grab 11 rebounds. The Ospreys were led by Sasha Williams (JR, Cherry Hill, NJ), who would score 22 points and collect five rebounds and two steals.
The Owls will play in the consolation game of the tournament on Sunday at 2 PM. They will await the loser of the Scranton University and Washington and Lee game.
