Dubois, PA – After losing game one to Carlow University on Monday, the University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Softball team took on Penn State Schuylkill Nittany Lions on Tuesday. The Owls fell to the Lions after a rain delay, 5-2 in seven innings, and eliminating them from the USCAA Small College World Series.
The Nittany Lions came out hot with two runs in the bottom of the first off a triple by Danielle Lilly and an Owls error giving them a two-point lead. The Owls immediately responded in the second tying the game.
Sara Packard (St. Albans, ME) brought the first run of the day in off a SAC fly, brining Roni Shaw (Payette, ID) home. Brianna Losee (Pittsfield, ME) brought Emily Page (Lincoln, ME) home off a SAC bunt to tie the game.
Another quick response came from Lions Chase Strokes as she hit an RBI single. After the Lions took the lead 3-2 there are about an hour-long rain delay.
The Owls went cold for the remainder of the game as Schuylkill continued to bring in runs. Two more runs came in the third and fourth innings.
In her last game senior pitcher Packard earned four strikeouts in her 4.1 innings pitched. Hannah Sell earned the win in her complete game, with two strikeouts and allowing six hits.
The Owls finished with a 25-13 record.
