Owls Soar Over the SeaWolves

South Portland, ME – Our University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls swept Southern Maine Community College in their first doubleheader this weekend.  Both games ended in seven innings, 4-1 in game one, 7-5 in game two.

The first of the doubleheaders started early with Marissa Reagle (Seattle, WA) hitting a two run homer, her second on the year, giving the Owls a quick 2-0 lead.  Reagle drove in another run in the second, bringing Brianna Losee (Pittsfield, ME) home. 

The Owls shut out ended in the third. Meranda Martin homered to center field, one of the two hits for the SeaWolves on the game.  UMPI increased the lead in the sixth off an Emily Page (Lincoln, ME) single to bring in Jordi Legassie (Presque Isle, ME).

Sara Packard (St. Albans, ME) started the game for the Owls on the mound earning the win in her four innings pitched, with Brookelynn Garcia (Torrance, CA) relieved her in the fifth to add four strikeout in her three inning shut out, earning a save.

The SeaWolves took an early inning lead with a three run first to start game two.   Singles by Sara Ring and Emma Burns each brought in a run, followed by a wild pitch bringing in another one before the inning ended.

As the Owls defense picked up in the following innings so did their offense.  With two on, Garcia hit a two RBI double bring the SeaWolves lead to just one.  Legassie's single turned into a run, with two stolen bases followed by a SMCC error allowing her to score to tie the game.  Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) followed with her fifth homer on the year, to give the Owls the lead.

Continuing the shut the SeaWolves out, UMPI increased their lead in the fourth and fifth.  After her double, earlier in the inning, Nicole Marucci (Naples, ME) scored off an error by SMCC in the fourth.  Garcia added yet another homer for the Owls, her first career homerun, scoring two more runs, giving them a 7-3 lead in the fifth.

The SeaWolves scored two more runs on the evening off a Ring single and a Kimberly Banville double before the Owls put the game away in the seventh.  Garcia earned the win on the mound pitching 6.1 of the seven innings.

The Owls continue their weekend of doubleheaders with two games at Fisher College, Saturday evening, games start at 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM.
