Weston, MA – Weather for the meet that the U-Maine Presque Isle track and field club participated in over the last number of years at Regis University (Weston, MA) was rather uncooperative on Friday. The early reports calling for limited snow fall turning to rain showers later in the day proved inaccurate as the meet was called because of dangerous conditions early on. Staff and grounds crews at Regis made valiant attempts to clear the track of the continuing snowfall but were unsuccessful. Field events proved to be even more treacherous with most throwing events and jumps called before running events were discontinued.
The men's 4 x 100m relay of Chris Udobi (Nigeria), Travis Simpson (Maple Shade, NJ), Paul Kaplan (Embden, ME), and Jahvion Lockridge (Grand Rapids, MI) was contested even though passing zones and lane lines were virtually impossible to see. Chenoa Jackson (Wilten, ME) was able to run her leg of the 1500m before the final decision to safeguard competitors was made in canceling the balance of the meet. Prior to the running events starting, shot putters Samson Carpenter (Seoul, South Korea), Andy Tapia (Dover, NJ), and Allen Stanback (Salem, NJ) got their three preliminary attempts in. The Owls then regrouped and focused on the meet scheduled for the following day at Fitchburg State University.
