Randolph Center, VT - The UMPI Men's Soccer Team beat Vermont Tech Sunday afternoon 3-1 on the second day of their season opening 2-game road trip to Vermont. With the win, the Owls improve to (1-1) on the season while the Knights fall to (0-1).
Both teams played to a 0-0 tie through the first 45 minutes. 17 minutes into the second half, Jack Harrington (Fr. Bath, ME) put the Owls on the scoreboard when he found the net from the left wing. Vermont Tech tied the score 10 minutes later. The Knights were awarded a penalty kick at the 12 minute mark. UMPI keeper Caleb Thompson (So. Washburn, ME) saved the day for the Owls making a fantastic stop to keep the game tied.
The Owls would turn on the pressure after Thompson's great save and scored 2 goals late to seal their first victory of the season. Andre Rossignol (Fr. Van Buren, ME) scored a beautiful set piece shot while Stephen Cochrane (Fr. Deer Isle, ME) put the game away on a quick combination play.
The Owls get back on the field on Wednesday, September 5th when they host UMaine - Machias for a 3:00 P.M. match.
