FORT KENT, ME – A run late in the first half would propel the University of Maine at Fort Kent (21-7) over the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (12-13), as they would run away with an 88-60 victory on Thursday evening.
With just over six minute remaining in the first half, Kim Collins (SR, Fort Washington, MD) would pull the Owls to within two of their hosts. A 14-1 run by the Bengals would give them their first real cushion in the matchup and allow them to build a lead. UMFK would lead by a score of 45-29 at the half.
The Bengals would get hot in the second half, shooting 51.7% from the floor. The Owls would uncharacteristically turn the ball over 23 times in the game, allowing their opponents to cruise to the victory.
Collins would lead the scoring attack for UMPI, scoring 18 points and grabbing five rebounds. Deandre Duncombe (FR, Port St. Lucie, FL) would add 17 points and four assists, while Maurice Harris (SR, Miami, FL) would net 13 points and grab seven rebounds.
The Owls have qualified for postseason play and will be the #2 seed in the ACAA Championships. They will take on the #3 seeded Valley Forge at Pine Manor College on February 24th at 2 pm.
